They're also doomed, expendable and cheap. There's a certain fatalism to nature shows. Inescapable. "March" tries to stay upbeat, but you just can't believe how miserable that life must be.
Another documentary I saw showed that for recreation, the penguins will push pebbles around with their beaks, sometimes for weeks at a time, sometimes in big groups. A sort of alien tic-tac-toe. And they don't get cable. Poor things.
