In anticipation of the release of Elizabeth: The Golden Age this Friday, October 12th, we have been hooked up with a few nice little goodies to give away.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age finds Queen Elizabeth I (Oscar®-winner Cate Blanchett) facing bloodlust for her throne and familial betrayal. Growing keenly aware of the changing religious and political tides of late 16th century Europe, Elizabeth finds her rule openly challenged by the Spanish King Philip II (Jordi Molla)—with his powerful army and sea-dominating armada—determined to restore England to Catholicism. ![]() For the film's release, we have been hooked up with a one-sheet, t-shirt, hat, pin and female t-shirt to give away. I will be placing these items into two prize packages. On Friday, the 12th, I will select three winners out of those who play. To play, all you have to do is reply to this thread with what film you think to be Blanchett's best. No pressure. The first two of the three winners to PM me with their shipping -- after I announce the winners, of course -- will win the prizes. Good luck! flabbybuns |

Yea, another contest.
This looks really good too. Ok, I really thought she was great in "Notes on a Scandal" and "The Good German". ![]() |

I'm not going for brownie points but, by far, her best role to date is Elizabeth.
I can't say how many times I've seen it. Heck, I watched it last night on one of the movie channels. I know it sounds crazy....but I can watch it over and over and never get tired or bored doing so. And if the new movie is as good as the trailer, well let's just say.......I think it will be a close 1st & 2nd. But for now, my two other favorites are Aviator.....she nailed the part of Katharine Hepburn and finally, I thought she was sooooo funny in Bandits. ![]() |

The marvelous Cate Blanchett. She is simply amazing to me, my favorite actress. I seriously fell in love with her when I first saw Elizabeth in 1998. I know the movie is filled with many historical inaccuracies, but Cate and Geoffrey Rush made it perfect with their performances. Elizabeth is my favorite movie, has been since the moment I saw it. I watch it every Saturday night (have for years) and adore it more with each viewing. The passion she puts into the rule is stunning. She is an amazing Elizabeth Tudor. When I read anything now about Elizabeth (Philippa Gregory's The Virgin's Lover or Robin Maxwell's The Queen's Bastard), all I see in my head is Cate as Elizabeth. No matter what version of Elizabeth's life I watch, she always is the best. "I am not your Elizabeth. I am no man's Elizabeth!" No one does that line better. Having read The Complete Works of Elizabeth I (a compilation of all the confirmed written words of Elizabeth), I can say I have seen many of her lines that she actually used in several versions of Elizabeth's life. Cate does these lines best. She makes me cry each time I watch her in the film by how much I am moved by her portrayal and how real she makes it seem. That is incredibly rare for me. I first heard a rumor of a sequel to Elizabeth in early 2005. I read an interview of Cate's saying she was approached to do a sequel, but refused. I never gave up hope and I am so glad for that. Thank goodness Geoffrey Rush talked her into doing the sequel!
While I do adore Tudor history, I also adore Cate and have seen most of her films (I've sought them out because of her). Elizabeth will always be my favorite film of hers (unless The Golden Age is able to sway me, which looks very promising). She is so talented. I also adore her in Little Fish (great movie to see a different side of her acting skills), Charlotte Gray (a very touching film) and even her unusual and quirky role in Notes on a Scandal (which I love how they got three woman who have played Elizabeth in that film (Elizabeth, Shakespeare in Love and Elizabeth: The Virgin Queen)). Alright, I think I've gushed enough for my Elizabeth/Cate love for one forum post. ![]() |

What can I say, I'm a Lord of the Rings fan. Fellowship of the Ring is definately her best.
