Got to be the best foreign film I've ever seen. A bit 'old' now - but still a great in my book!

I've never heard of it. Who directed it? What is it about?

Based on a novel by Philippe Dijan, the film is directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix. The storyline is very basic - failed novelist is bunking in a beach hut doing 'arty' stuff. Along comes Betty Blue, who goes her own very peculiar way about getting her lover's novels recognised. Let's just say she's a woman of few inhibitions and we're thrown from sex to slightly sordid to very, very dark. It's a 'classy' film, very dark and well worth watching. Not a Sunday afternoon pink and fluffy film by any stretch of the imagination. Once watched, never forgotten.

It sounds really interesting. Thanks for the detailed synopsis. I'll try and check it out soon.
