Hollywood really isn't offering much more than canned spam these days so I'm trying to broaden my horizons. What are some good Indian movies?

I like Monsoon Wedding, which isn't actually Bollywood but is brilliant.
Um. Devdas is good but heartbreaking. The musical numbers are incredible though. |

I have never seen a bollywood movie.
Do they have good storylines? Do they speak english in the movies or do we need subtitles?

Sometimes they have a few English lines here and there, but they mostly have subtitles. They are just like any films - some storylines are great and some are ridiculous.

Some movies have subtitles and some not. I think most of the Bollywood they don't speak English except when it was translated (but it isn't quite the same thing the said in native language).
Try see Kuch Kuch Hota Hey, a love movies and very touching. |

I think they are cool but they won't catch on in the USA unless they add a lot of shoot outs and car chases

yes, all of you are right. I think bollywood movies are too emotional and most of them are made out of nothing...i mean no base at all....but i like some of the movies with really researched and hardwork behind them. Watch a movie called "D" or new Devdas.

I have to say, personally, i am a huge fan of bollywood but most of teh movie that come out are pointless and terrible. Also, too many of them are copies of hollywood films. Simple put, finding a quality and original bollywood movie can sometimes be liek finding a needle in a haystack.

There's been quite a lot great Bollywood films as of late. Rang de Basanti (2006), Omkara (2006), and Swades (2004) are some of the most enjoyable films I have seen as of late. Rang de Basanti is a definite must-see. As soon as possible.
