Is this the most famous foreign movie ever?
Amelie really made it into the mainstream more than any other international movie that I know of. Why do you think that is? |

UUmm!! Well what about seven samurai--a great american western was based strictly on this film (the magnificent Seven)--and well just about every Kurwasawa (sp???) film.
I don't mean to sound harsh or arogant, but maybe you need to do some homework before you make a statement like this--check some of the great work coming out of europe in the 50's-70's. Foreign directors worth checking out: Renoir Godard*** Fellini Rohmer Truffaunt*** De Sica***

Wow, aren't you a rude person?
You didn't even answer his/her question. Anyhows... It was a very good movie. My French teacher showed it to us during class and we thought it was very good. I guess it got labelled as "mainstream" because it just got well known and therefore everybody started watching it. Most of all, it had a very interesting storyline and unique characertisitics. I personally enjoyed seeing this movie because I could not predict what was going to happen next. If you haven't seen it yet, you really should. ![]() |

Well, actually I wasn't trying to be offensive at all, but when you have only seen one foreign film and you wonder why it is the most famous one--this seems a little ignorant. In an effort to show him a bit of the foreign film world I listed some films and directors worth checking out

Watching "Amelie" makes me want to do art. And go to France. It is so beautiful and unexpected.

It's a super movie - but if you're talking great and French, then Betty Blue still beats it by a mile!

He didnt say "best" he said "most popular" which is probably true as far as the US is concerned. It also was a question not a statement...
I loved Amelie. I've watched probably 100 french films and a great deal more in other languages, I think Amelie is by far one of the "best" |

Most popular in recent years but in all time, i don't believe so.
Amelie is a good movie, eccentric and catchy. But I tend to view movies that deal with heavier subjects, and done well as superior. |
