Default First science fiction movie?

What was the first science fiction movie ever made? Was it Metropolis?
Or Shape of Things to Come?

1898 Le Rêve d'un astronome, aka The Astronomer's Dream; or, The Man in the Moon, by Georges Méliès.
1902 Le Voyage dans la Lune, directed by Georges Méliès.
1921 First Man to the Moon, directed by Dave Fleischer. Made in the US, and a short film (many were back that far).
1919 The First Men in the Moon, directed by Bruce Gordon and J.L.V. Leigh. Made in the UK.

Metropolis was made in 1927 and the Shape of Things to Come came out in 1936.

I've seen Voyage de la lune. I wasnt impressed, but then again it was a great achievement for its time.

Has Le Rêve d'un astronome ever been released on DVD or is it only available as a film print?

Those are all very old movies, I have never heard of them either. I don't think they would be all that great either, all old and bad quality, welcome to the new generation. Now The Matrix was a great sci fi movie.

I remember learning that Metropolis was considered the first sci fi film. I may be wrong but those other earlier films listed above may have been considered fantasy rather than sci-fi. I haven't seen the other films so I could be wrong.
