One thing I just don't get:
Why did the sorting hat have problems allocating Harry to a certain house? Is it simply because Slytherin caters to his great skills, and that most wizards became great through it, or is there a much deeper meaning to it? Like, does it have to do something about Voldemort's powers in him?

Yes, it picked up certain trates, including those impressioned by voldemort, on Harry that made him fit slytherin. He can speak to snakes for one!
However, as the film points out, the fact that harry made the choice to join gryfendor shows that he does not necessarily have to become evil just because of similarities or even blood. flabbybuns |

Read the books. It tells you why he was considered for Slytherin.
