Default Half-Life 2

What are your opinions on Half-Life 2?

I thought it was a bit too linear, I would not want to replay the single player mode again. Although I did have a LOT of fun with the gravity gun!

I loved the physics engine, thought the graphics were OK, but was totally unimpressed with the game.

I also hate the entire concept of Steam

That said, I do enjoy some of the Half Life 2 multi player mods - most of them are better than the original game itself

Oh yeah, the Steam service was terrible, it could have done without that, like many other games have had. I wish the physics could tie into the gameplay a bit more, most of the time it was just you using the gravity gun to kill stuff.

I've enjoyed Half-Life 2 as well, but I would not want to replay it since it has you going on a fixed path, plus some levels were boring also.

I loved the new engine, but immediately jumped to CS source, which I think does not have the same gameplay as the original (even if the graphics are way better)

I played the Half Life 2 single player for about an hour before switching to CS:Source. I am currently addicted to Garry's Mod because of it's sandbox and the fact that You can download so much more content. Why do people not like Steam? Steam is the best game distrobution method and will only continue to get better as time goes on.

People don't like steam mainly because it requires an internet connection, which you can't expect *everyone* to have (especially the more casual users). This applies to those that buy HL2 in actual stores offline, not by a download.

I agree. The steam install was a torture.
Valve has announced that on April 26, a new expansion pack will be launched.
It has been titled Half-Life 2: Aftermath.

Some more detail is available here

Quote:
Aftermath immediately follows Half-Life 2 and deals with the events set in motion during Half-Life 2. You've done critical damage to the Citadel. The entire area surrounding City 17 is about to be destroyed. You and Alyx are leading the flight from the city getting up close and personal with some of the creatures and sights from the end of the game. Speculation had initially suggested that you will only play as Alyx in the expansion but Valve writer, Tim Edwards, has since confirmed that you will also get to play as Gordon. Due to the destruction of City 17 infrastructure, creatures that previously had no access to the City will now be an added threat for your characters.
