Default PS2 disc read errors

Has anyone had a problem with their PS2 reading discs? Sometimes after inserting a disc in the tray, I get a disc read error, and I have to reinsert the game. It does work after several tries though, but it is annoying nontheless.

I have cleaned the PS2 disc lens every so often, and it works okay then. It is just annoying to have to clean it though. I've heard others have similar errors with their PS2's and I think it happens only if you have a first-run PS2.

Yeah it definitely happens a lot if you have bought a PS2 when it first came out. I would be more skeptical of buying first-run systems now, due to the many defects that can happen.

Yeah, the new style PS2 seems to have fixed this problem mostly. I wish I would have waited instead of just rushing out to buy a PS2.

the only time i get disc read errors are with those purple backed discs, the first one that gave me a problem was Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8. It eventaully stopped being able to read the disc at all.

Hi, I know it is an old post and it is how long my PS2 is sitting in my room as a decoration item. Recently I found a great solution for the dis read errors and now my PS2 is working again. It seems that all you have to do is clean the laser lens very carefully and it should solve the problem.
Here is the page where I found the solution PS2 Repair It is a tech support site that provide step by step information and photos.

Good luck

Joe
