Will never be released on DVD ever! George Lucas said not only will he never release it, if he had the chance, he'd get a sledgehammer and destroy every bootleg he could get his hands on!
For the uninitiated, the 1978 TV special was incredibly bad and only aired once. |

It only aired once in December of 1978 and then was dropped down a black hole. Bootlegs of it have been circulated ever since.

Youtube has the entire thing on there. It's small 5 -10 minute bits, but MAN it does suck. Especially the Wookie part.

I watched this thing back in 1978. I was very excited that there was a new Star Wars show - on TV even. Boy, what a let down. I can understand why this thing was moth balled. I really would not recommend seeking this out - even for the curious-minded and or lover of bad TV and cinema. I't just not worth the time...

I tried watching it when youtube wasn't popular and had movies on it. It's horrrrrible. You sit there listening to Wookies talking and have NO idea what they're saying. It's like listening to dogs bark. Then people sing, and horrible TV actors show up, and they replace the word 'Christmas' or 'Holiday' with love day or something dumb like that. I'd burn a copy if I saw it.
