Will you be seeing this movie?
I dont get the hype surrounding it, probably because I havent read the book! Does anyone know if you'd have to read the book to be able to understand the movie? |

The book is one of the most widely read out there. I make jokes that people who want to look like they read a lot usually claim their favorite book is the Da Vinci Code.
It was a pretty good story. Far from the greatest of all time. Sorry for sounding so bitter but I actually do love reading. And I have read much better. You should definatly be able to understand the movie without the book...but I can't tell you for sure without seeing it first. |

To be honest, I'm disgusted with the book, author, and now the cast. They basically created a fake religion out of it. And when confronted on the issue the author basically backs the religion. It's like Hubbard's Scientology. I won't be seeing the movie.
I'm disapointed to see Tom Hanks in it as I think he is probably the single best actor alive.

I read the book. I think the cast is good, despite what Dustin says. I can't wait to see the movie, and I can only hope that this won't be an over-glorified version of another "Book to movie" translation.
If it doesn't follow the book closely, I'll be very dissapointed. |

I said the cast was good.

It's the author and his 'followers' I take issue with. The cast are basically accomplices IMO, albeit skilled ones.

You really need to read the book conrad! It's an amazing book and is quite the page turner. Once you read the first chapter, you won't be able to put it down. I know because I stayed up many a night when I should've been studying, reading the book...

I know! But I can't think of anyone who can play more roles than Hanks. There are lots of actors out there that have tried, but they usually play the same character in a different role. Hank's has played more roles and characters (successfully at least) than anyone else I can think of. I've thought that he is one of the best for a long time.
