Books never seem to translate well to the big screen. But outside of that, which books made the best movies? I think that the LOTR series was an actual improvement over the books.

Schindler's List was great
All the John Grisham books make great movies, especially The Pelican Brief and The Client. |

yes, I agree. LOTR is awesome. That goes without saying. Harry Potter was *ok*but I think the books were better.

its generally disappointing when i see movies translated from books. most of them are, because i cant help but have so much expectation. i have been really disappointed with the deficit in detail in the Harry Potter movies. but then, its understandable because they cant fit the whole book in a couple of hours. isnt it that The Goblet of Fire was supposed to be in two parts? only the producers didnt agree, so they crammed everything into one whole movie.

That was bound to happen, the Potter series wasn't really made for the big screen. They just fit them in there. But I believe the production group has done pretty good so far.
LOTR was also great, especially the DVD set with all the deleted scenes jammed back in! |

I guess Schindler's List will be the best movie of all times. It was the best movie in the last decade. Even though special effects are very normal in today's movies that makes them very good to see, the Schindler's List portrayal is very realistic that you will surely be moved when you first seen it. |

I think LOTR, just for sheer volume of people it attracted. Harry potter was also big, but LOTR just appeals to more age groups IMO.

I loved Hitchhikers Guide in book form, but the movie came across as very bland to me. It is very hard to take the detail of a book and put it into movie format.
