As we are about to go into July I had figured (and even predicted) that
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix would be #1 on CanMag’s Top Ten list.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire easily pulled off the feat, so why not
OotP? Add in the fact that Potter mania will be at an all new high next month with the release of the film and the release of
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I figured
Order of the Phoenix to be a shoe in at the top spot. But it’s not.
Who stopped the film from becoming number one? Though the idea of a live-action
Transformers movie came under fire immediately with the selection of Michael Bay to direct, the film has still garnered tons of attention and has remained popular enough to easily hold the number one spot. Seriously, by views alone,
Order of the Phoenix cannot stand up to these giant robots.
Now, the CanMag Top Ten list is not always the best indicator on who will earn more at the box office, as the list is created by which film attracts the most attention – that is it. With both the final trailers out for
Transformers and
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, it is hard to say which will be a bigger spectacle. Potter might have a bigger following, but
Transformers has a generation worth of moviegoers who are bound to show up to support their favorite comic/cartoon.
I have watched both films trailers more times than I’d like to admit, and I still can’t place a bead on which film will be the bigger blockbuster. Since the two are being released so close together, one has to also wonder how the proximity will affect both films. If the two were released on the exact same day at the exact same hour, I would probably see
Transformers first. But that’s just me.
Since this one is too hard to call, what do you think? Who will be July’s box office giant:
