Alright,
it has become apparent that while we sit and wait for the release of Half Life, we should take a look at other games we are pretty stoked on.
The first that comes to mind, especially since it does have a release
date set for September 22, is Lucas
Arts Star
Wars: Battlefront.
We briefly mentioned Battlefront in a recent
article. However, as the release date closes in, we were able to round
up even more information on the awaited Star Wars saga game.
In Battlefront, you will be able to play on four sides: the Separatists
[seen in Episode I-III], the Republic [seen in Episode I-III], the Alliance
[the original good guys from Episode IV-VI], and the Empire [Darth's old
team from Episode IV-VI]. All of the units have been compiled with images
and statistics available at the game sit listed above. After viewing the
units, it seems that each side is very well balanced with units from each
side being comparable to one another. The more unique characters seem
to come from the Separatists and the Republic as you are granted droids
with special features [such as shields and twin blasters] and units with
added features such as a jet pack.
Star
Wars Battlefields
There
are going to be twelve to sixteen available maps for Battlefront.
Some of the more famous locations will be Hoth, from Empire Strikes
Back, and Geonosis from The Clone Wars. Other maps sure
to be included are Yavin 4, Endor, and Tatooine. By first look, the maps
have similarities to Battlefield 1942. There are multiple points
where you can respawn, capture, and re-group. The side that controls them
all will win the map. The maps will have side missions as well including
a mission to knock out power generators at various locations.
Just as in Battlefield 1942, these maps can be large. And what
better way to get around a map than in a Snow Speeder, X-Wing, or Tie
Fighter. Yes, you will be able to use all these vehicles and plenty more
when the game ships.
The
Look of Star Wars
The
game offers two perspectives to play as, first and third. Most computer
users will choose first person view while the console gamers may enjoy
third person more. The graphics, however not comparable to Half Life
2, are a good step up from Battlefield 1942. You will also
enjoy features such as surveying the landscape from an additional seat
inside vehicles. That's right, there will be vehicles that have added
seats for gunner positions and such. The fact that it is a Star Wars
franchise should do the game just fine.
The game is set for release for PC, XBOX, and PS2 on September 22, to
