The trailer looks good, Leo looks good, Blanchett looks good, Beckinsale
looks good, and even Baldwin looks good. So what is it about this film that
just doesn't quite do it for me? I may just have to shut my mouth, but this
film does not dazzle me. On the other hand, the cast and the story could
come together to make a great film, even if I don't exactly see it in the
trailer.
The Aviator is about the aviation pioneer Howard Hughes (played
by Leonardo DiCaprio), the eccentric billionaire industrialist and Hollywood
film mogul famous for romancing some of the world’s most beautiful women
[two of which are played by Blanchett and Beckinsale]. The drama recounts
the years of his life from the late 1920s through the 1940s, an epoch when
Hughes was directing movies and test flying innovative aircraft he designed
and created. It also chronicles Hughes’ struggle with his physical disabilities
and phobias, and his increasingly erratic, obsessive-compulsive behavior
that led him ultimately to isolate himself from his associates and withdraw
from the world. Kind of like A Beautiful Mind... but different.
Well, stop listening to me talk about it and head over to MovieFone to see
