Here are a list of the special features you fill find on the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban DVD. If you would like to read my review on the film, go to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban REVIEW

Special Features Disc on Prisoner of Azkaban

First, the movie looks great on DVD. I almost forgot how different this Harry Potter [directed by Alfonso Cuarón] was than the first two films [directed by Chris Columbus]. On that note, lets check out some the features you can expect with your 'extra features' disc.

The disc opens with something similar to the Marauders Map that is used by Harry in the film. You have five main options in front of you, none of which really give you any sense of what to except from each choice. The choices are: 'Defense Against the Dark Arts', 'Divination Class', 'Great Hall', 'Tour Honeydukes', and 'Hogwarts Grounds'. So, here we go.

Defense Against the Dark Arts

This feature gives you two added options. You can either choose 'Magic You May Have Missed' or 'Tour Lupin's Classroom'. The 'Magic You May Have Missed' option seemed cool, as I thought it was a highlight of all the magic used in the film. However, the reel acts more as a quiz and demands you to answer questions after each highlight; which sucked. The 'Tour Lupin's Classroom', all though neat, was a waste of time as well.

Divination Class

This is my favorite feature among the lot. It offers three featurettes: 'Trelawney's Crystal Ball', 'Creating the Vision', and 'Head to Shrunken Head'. 'Trelawney's Crystal Ball' is a deleted scenes section that covers some unfinished material. 'Creating the Vision' is basically the making of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban [even though it does encompass parts of the first two films as well]. The last option, 'Head to Shrunken Head', is an interview with anybody who is anybody in the Potter films. Really good interviews except for the use of a stupid shrunken head which only wastes time.

Tour Honeydukes

This option is a feature within itself and does not do too much either. Using the same technology behind 'Tour Lupin's Classroom,' you get to turn your head and look around an active candy shop. Whoopedeeeedoooo.

The Greathall

This option offers three featurettes called 'Catch Scabbers', 'Choir Practice', and 'The Quest of Sir Cadagan'. 'Catch Scabbers' and 'The Quest of Sir Cadagan' are both games that I found to be a waste of time. The games require you to control the 'camera' by using the arrow functions on your DVD remote. 'Choir Practice' is the only highlight here. During the song's, 'Double Double Toil and Trouble' [good song], run you are able to view highlights from the entire Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban movie.

Hogwarts Grounds

What I thought would be a cool panoramic view, or map, or Hogwarts turned out just being more options. The options here allow the user to get a 'sneak peak' at the upcoming Harry Potter video game, or you can choose to check out 'Hagrid's Hut', which offers some more nice featurettes. 'Care of Magical Creatures', found in 'Hagrid's Hut', deals with the animal handlers involved with the Potter films [such as the birds, rats, bats, and cats]. A pretty cool addition to the feature disc. The other option, 'Conjuring a Scene' was also a nice feature that offered more behind the scenes with an emphasis on look, make-up, and effects.

Features Disc

While the disc does have some features that I found just to serve as non-interest filler, there are some real cool additions added to the features disc attached with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I am sure the DVD will have high enough sales for the holidays even without the feature disc.
