Magneto, looking slick
Spin-offs are king! As it looks that Elektra
should be better than Daredevil, others are beginning to see the
power of comic spinoffs. While Elektra is based off of Daredevil,
the two most discussed spinoff concepts deal with X-Men. The first
spinoff, discussed here, is
a film all about Wolverine. Even though I would say the original X-Men
film series is very much Wolverine, it may be refreshing to dive into Wolverine's
past; maybe even before the experiments. The latest spinoff news, some that
I have found very interesting, is about the creation of a spinoff for the
X-Men's number one villian, Magneto.
Magneto Movie
According to Variety, who recently talked to 20th Century Fox, Fox mentioned
that they are currently working with Sheldon Turner to draft up a script
for a Magneto film. In the two X-Men films that are out now, Magneto
is played by Ian McKellen, the same guy that played Gandolf in Lord
of the Rings. While it would be sweet to see Ian pick up this role,
it is highly unlikely.
For those of you who haven't seen the original X-Men, the movie
begins in a nazi camp where Magneto [Eric Magnus Lensher] is just a boy.
On being separated from his parents, Eric frantically attempts to get back
to them, which causes his levels of emotion to skyrocket. As we are tought
in the comics and the films, the earliest mutant powers come out during
high levels of emotion or stress. Because of Eric's stress, he first uses
his powers at this event. In an attempt to remove Eric, the nazi guards
are required to knock him unconscious as he creates a magnetic field between
him and the barrier fence.
This scene was one of the coolest scenes in the entire X-Men film.
Now, the script for the spinoff, Magneto, plans to go back to this scene
and start from there. We will be able to witness the events that made Magneto
who he is in the X-Men films. What does this mean? Well, for one,
Ian McKellen will probably not appear in the spinoff. The movie will cover
Magneto's younger years, so McKellen will be unnecessary for the role. Unless,
of course, they have him appear at the ending.
Stay tuned for updates. |
