Brad Garrett takes a 2005 Emmy
Now that Raymond is just about over getting love
from, well, everybody, it may be his brother Robert's turn to take part
in the spotlight. Though Brad Garrett jokingly hinted that we could maybe
expect a spin-off to the best Comedy Series Everybody Loves Raymond,
it may have been that he meant no joke at all.
Brad Garrett to Star
According to TheHollywoodReporter,
negotiations for an Everybody Loves Raymond that centers on Garrett's
character, Robert Barone, his wife and in-laws have heated up at CBS during
the past two weeks. The spin-off, though negotiated before, has gained momentum
as Raymond wrapped its ninth, and final, season run in May and
won the 2005 Emmy for Best Comedy. Brad Garrett also walked away from Sunday's
awards with his third supporting comedy actor trophy for his work on the
much-decorated sitcom.
Talks for a spin-off based on Raymond's brother, Robert, have been on-again,
off-again for some time, but the recent report claims that the various camps
involved have made significant progress on outstanding issues during the
past week. Sources said there is a strong possibility that Everybody
Loves Raymond creator, Phil Rosenthal, will come back on board as showrunner
with a number of the scribes that worked alongside him on the hit comedy
series for the last nine years.
A CBS spokesman confirmed Monday that the negotiations have had renewed momentum during the past few weeks, but he stressed that no formal agreement is in place.
"You know, we should try to be a little funny because there may be a spin-off,"
Garrett joked Sunday night as the cast of Everybody Loves Raymond
gathered onstage at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles one last time to
collect the comedy series statuette.
Stay tuned for updates.
