I am a big fan of the director Doug Liman. The guy has such a wide mix of successful films under his belt that it is hard not to follow what the director will do next. Some Liman films you may have seen are Mr & Mrs Smith, The Bourne Identity, Go and Swingers. Now, I would have to assume that there is at least one film in those mentioned that you enjoyed. If you didn't at least enjoy Swingers then you better go get your head checked.

But never mind all that, it turns out that Doug Liman is ready to apply his talent to television with the creation of a kung fu comedy.

Liman Does Kung Fu Comedy

I don't know if it was the success of Kung Fu Hustle that put the idea in Doug Liman's and scribe Dave Caplan's head, but the two are teaming up to bring a kung fu comedy series to NBC.

According to Variety, the untitled kung fu comedy revolves around a pair of brothers who find themselves taking care of their mom and her restaurant. In order to afford her dream retirement home, they're forced to become bounty hunters -- and they decide to use the martial art of kung fu rather than firearms to get the job done.

Caplan, who is also the executive producer of the ABC series George Lopez, is currently working on a pilot episode as we speak and will go forward to produce the comedy beside Doug Liman and David Bartis.

Caplan has this to say when the idea was pitched to him about a kung fu comedy:

I was a private investigator before becoming a comedy writer, and I'm currently training for my black sash in Wing Chun (Shaolin) kung fu, so it was tough to resist. Luckily for me, the list of ex-private eye, kung fu-trained comedy writers is pretty short.

Stay tuned for updates.
