After announcing last week that we can expect a 24 movie by 2008 (with details on how they plan to do it; HERE), Fox decided to go even one further by signing a deal with Kiefer Sutherland that guarantees the show another three seasons.
More 24 Seasons
According to Variety, Kiefer Sutherland recently struck it rich by signing an eight-figure deal with 20th Century Fox. Since the hit Fox television series 24 is based on Kiefer's character, Jack Bauer, the survival of the super-agent is a must for the survival of the show.
Therefore, we are now guaranteed another three seasons-- three days to be exact --of Jack Bauer killing terrorists, discovering moles, working things out with his daughter, and watching just about all of his co-workers die on the job.
But hey, not everybody could be so lucky.
The new deal gives Sutherland a significant pay raise for Seasons 6, 7, and 8; making him one of the highest paid actors on television.
The recent deal will have no impact on the 24 movie, which is expected to begin filming during late 2007.
20th president Gary Newman, a firm supporter of 24 since the beginning, said Sutherland's work on the show has shown an "understanding of what makes for a compelling story or character, and he brings a passion to the process of making television that extends well beyond his own performance."
New deal for Sutherland comes as 24 is experiencing some of the best ratings and critical notices of its five-year run. Skein is up 13% among adults 18-49, with its 5.9/13 making it a staple of Nielsen's top 15. The increased ratings should come as no surprise considering that Season 5 is easily the best installment to date. No crappy side stories, no idiot daughter (and wife for that matter), no Nina and no bullshit.
"The writers keep managing to turn the show in on itself, coming up with something that's well thought-out and miraculous," Sutherland said.
