I always worry about films when they try to become
television shows. Usually the shows make the story seem cheesie, causing
a backlash towards the original film. Well, we have all heard that there
is a rumor that Lucas is working with Kevin Smith and Mark Hamill to create
a Star Wars television series.
While this rumor has yet to be confirmed, it has been told that Kevin Smith
walks around whistling the 'empire theme' a lot more than he should. Trying
to tell us something? Well, it seems like Lucas isn't the only one crazy
enough to take a sci-fi film and adapt it into a television series.
Mel Brooks Throws Balls at Television
Well, not exactly. But, it has been reported that Mel Brooks is busily working
on creating an animated television series based off of the sci-fi comedy
movie Spaceballs ['you didn't catch them!.. you caught their stunt
doubles']. So, how far have they gotten in production? Well, we do know that
MGM and Berliner Film Co. are completely committed while Brooks and Thomas
Meehan [Producers] are currently supervising the production of
the animated Spaceballs pilot. Under the current agreement, and
depending on the pilot episode, the first season will follow a one hour
pilot episode followed by thirteen half hour episodes. Brooks will be back
to voice the characters President Skroob and Yogurt.
