Kal Penn is falling into a little bit of a trend here. When the actor is not playing a humorous stoner in the Harold & Kumar film franchise the actor is playing some sort of terrorist. Penn first appeared as the speechless Lex Luthor henchman in Superman Returns and he has now joined some Islamic group for 24.

Kal Penn to Terrorize 24
According to THR, Kal Penn has been picked up by Fox to have a recurring role on the next season of 24.
He will play a guy who is somehow involved with the Islamic guru running the neighborhood mosque and might be the key to a terrorist plot.
Since his role is 'recurring', I guess we should assume that Jack Bauer and CTU have about, I don't know, five perfect opportunities to capture or kill Penn's character but are only successful by the end of the season. Just a guess, but I'd bet dollars on it.
Besides playing a trouble-maker, Penn is still sticking close to comedy with a return as Kumar in Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam along with the sequel Van Wilder 2: Rise of the Taj. Before you ask -- Van Wilder 2 will be Reynolds-less.
