If you haven’t packed your fall wardrobe
with eggplant, aubergine, plum, periwinkle or lilac you better get started.
As evidenced on the Emmy Red Carpet the color purple is hot!
Best, Worst Dressed of the 58th Annual Emmy Awards
Perfection in Purple –
Jamie Pressly (My Name is Earl) was one of the evenings best in
a Badgley Mishka eggplant beaded halter gown. The back was simple and beautiful.
Her light blonde hair in a structured up do with a braid wrapped around
one side. Jewelry was minimal. She was a stunner.
Evangeline Lilly (Lost) was spectacular in a plum strapless Versace
gown. Her light auburn hair shone in loose tousled curls. Once again minimal
jewelry – fabulous!
Jean Smart (24) was lovely in a lilac halter dress with ruching. Her blonde
curls framed her face. This shows you a woman can look great at any age.
Leah Remini (The King of Queens) worked a Versace purple one shoulder
gown. Her hair was down with slight curl. The accessories were perfect.
Purple gone wrong –
Ellen Pompeo (Grey’s Anatomy) wore a deep purple strapless
burnout velvet dress from John Galliano for Christian Dior. The bodice of
the dress was ill-fitting and therefore there was saggage. The necklace
just didn’t work for me. A little more make up might have helped.
Her hair was completely straight and was half pulled up, but too severely.
For a special night you need special hair.
Evangeline Lilly
Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) chose a ruffled Vera Wang in periwinkle
then piled on necklace after necklace. I found it too gimmicky and to top
it off she had a too fussy up do. The lavender eye shadow put me over the
edge. I call it the Sandra Oh what were you thinking – for a petite
girl less is definitely more.
Chic in Champagne-
Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) was amazing in vintage Escada.
The fully beaded champagne gown had a deep v-neckline. It left no doubt
to her anatomy. Her blonde hair was styled in a wavy up do. She truly looked
“old Hollywood”. She would give Charlize Theron a run for her
money.
Champagne sick-
Melissa Rivers (TV Guide Channel) was wearing a champagne silk
potato sack. The baggy bodice on the dress made it look as if her bosoms
were heading south fast. If fashion isn’t flattering it is wrong.
Ebony and Ivory –
Annette Benning was a classic in an ivory cocktail length dress with spaghetti
straps covered in crystals. She had her hair in a French twist. And with
her hubby Warren Beatty on her arm perhaps the best accessory.
Debra Messing (Will and Grace) was lovely in her ivory tiered strapless
gown by Alberto Perreti. Her hair styled into a loose bun. (Up dos were
the style of the night with the heat it seemed the way to go.) With the
end of Will and Grace, we will miss Debra on the Red Carpet at the Emmys.
She is a fashion hall of famer.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine) not only
did she break the Seinfeld curse by being the first alum to win an Emmy
in their own sitcom, but was a glamour do in her black and white gown. The
straps and empire belting were black bugle beads on creamy white. Her hair
also in a messy bun the hair do du jour.
Paula Abdul slightly frumpy.
Joan Rivers (TV Guide Channel) looked great in a scoop neck black
column dress with black lace sleeves. She wore her hair in a mussed French
twist and silver chandelier earrings. Joan, it’s time for a mother-daughter
chat with Melissa.
Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order SVU) only two months post baby
looked fabulous in a black Carolina Herrera with appliquéd flowers.
I think her hair needed a little something as she wore it straight with
bangs. This IS the Emmys after all.
The biggest loser-
Paula Abdul (American Idol) where do I start. This was truly the
train wreck of the night. This off the shoulder floral mess with draped
fabric and a flower pinned at the top on the train was too much of everything.
Prints are not the best choice for the Red Carpet especially pastel floral
prints – yikes! A large pearl necklace with gemstones in the same
colors as the dress was just too large a piece for Paula. Her hair was in
a frizzy up do with rhinestone ornaments. I know she is making great money
from Idol – Paula you need a stylist - call me.
