The Special Tribute to Jerry Juhl opens with an outtake of Juhl cracking up during an interview, so that immediately makes this feel more human than the usual retrospective pieces. Even though it’s mainly colleagues talking about how great he was, it feels sincere because the interviews are not set to B.S. music. It’s just their thoughts and it ultimately becomes a history of the creative staff behind the show.
Additional “Exclusive Interviews” are really another six part documentary behind the scenes of the show. You’ll get reflections on the growth in season two, info on alternate live-action segments from different countries, the politics of Traveling Matt, logistics of recording Fraggle music and see some of the actual international Traveling Matt videos. Juhl appears in some of these segments, fortunately having been recorded before his passing.
