Sure, movies look great blown up on an HDTV, but the true glory of the new technology is television shows recorded and broadcast in a quality arguably superior to film. Checking out some of the fall season’s new entries provided a kaleidoscope of new experiences for my 56” JVC Projection HDTV. At only 720p, I’m still blown away.
Justice in HD
Justice was just made for HDTV. In the Jerry Bruckheimer vein of CSI: Miami, Justice exercises every visual trick to elevate the material. While Miami has the heightened filtered colors of the beach community to paint a rainbow on the JVC’s screen, Justice is stuck in the city courtrooms.
You wouldn’t think courtrooms and boardrooms could be too colorful, but they manage to find all the shade in the fluorescent green lighting to make the mundane sparkle. Everything is sharp, from the suits to the demonstration objects, and the holographic re-enactments are just faded enough to convey the effect, but distinct enough to add color to the scene.
When the show begins in its new time slot on Monday night, tune your HDTVs in for a crisp action-movie feeling law show.
