It seems like America has not completely lost its mind after all. The biggest test of “If we put it on a plate, the American public will eat it” has thankfully failed. Somehow it took Rupert Murdoch a few days to realize that airing an interview with a man who is more or less guilty of slaughtering 2 perfectly healthy people, talking about how he would have hypothetically slaughtered those two people, was a bad idea.

“I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project,” Murdoch said on Monday. “We are sorry for any pain this has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown-Simpson.”
We all know that Fox is basically treading water with lead shoes until “American Idol” and “24” return this January but this bush league attempt at ratings was a little much, even for FOX. The November 27th and 29th airing of the interview has been completely scratched. The book itself, which had the awfully cocky title, “If I Did It” is going to be shelved and all copies already printed are going to be destroyed (look for an illegal copy of the book on the internet within days).

Apparently strapped for cash, OJ was reportedly going to get paid $3.5 million although Judith Regan (the classy broad conducting the interview) thought that is was considerably less than that. As far as Regan goes, she had no moral problem doing the interview in the beginning but is now back pack peddling faster than a polar bear on a unicycle. She thought that what OJ said was more or less a confession and she was told that Orenthall James (OJ) was going to give the proceeds to his children, i.e. the people whose mom he murdered.
FOX network has issues as soon as news of the special was brought to the public’s attention. Numerous affiliate stations refused to air the special from the get-go and voices from such distinguished minds as Geraldo Rivera and Bill O’Reilly were vehemently against the interview and book right from the very start. It seems like there IS something Americans can agree on. Stay tuned for more.
