Police Squad DVD Police Squad
Everyone remembers The Naked Gun movies. Few remember that they were based on a short-lived TV show. Police Squad spoofed cop shows with the same Airplane style, but somehow it didn’t catch on in prime time. Naturally, the whole series is now available on DVD.

DVD Review: Police Squad

A gag reel included in the extras is not as funny as the successfully completed scenes. It’s more professional, like “Okay, we need to fix the funny stuff. Stop messing up.” Though a near accident on the set is scary.

The Leslie Nielsen interview is mostly reflective on the show’s failure. Nielsen is still sharp and really thoughtful as he analyzes the tone of the comedy.

A freeze frame special shows one of the show’s trademark fake freeze frame endings. It goes on way longer than it possibly could have on the show, so perhaps this is a raw take. The Zuckers give commentary, talking over the burning frame and end up revealing how some things evolved for the eventual movies.

Screen tests show some really clunky acting. It’s a wonder these guys got the roles, and pretty brave to allow them to be shown.

Stay tuned for updates.
