After 24 made serialized drama all the rage, it was only a matter of time before they ran out of dramatic hourly situations. Now it’s time for the serial comedy. Big Day is actually being sold as 24: The Comedy. Each half hour episode chronicles a small portion of a wedding day, and unless Chloe is their wedding coordinator, expect 22 half hours of chaos.
Marla Sokoloff Talks Big Day
Marla Sokoloff stars as the bride to be. You may remember her as a teenager on Full House or The Practice. This is her first chance to take the lead on a seires. “I always fell through the cracks and kind of got by, never got asked any questions and that was fine with me. But it’s a whole different experience. I’m definitely a little terrified but I’m more excited.”
Now you’ll see her in a more adult light. “It’s really weird,” Sokoloff said. “It’s really, really great. I love the character and I love the whole experience of the wedding, but it’s a very weird role for me to have because I haven’t really played an adult like character yet, someone who’s entering the world as a wife, so it’s nice.”
Make no mistake though, Marla Sokoloff is not a wedding junkie. She says when she’s ready to tie the knot, she’ll probably elope. “I’m not as romantic as she is I don't think. I’m a little more on the cynical side of love than she is. She’s very romantic and wants the big wedding and wants everything to be perfect. And I’m not really like that. I’m not cynical about love but I don't think I take it to the level that she does where everything’s all pink and perfect.”
The comic chaos that ensues on the show only reaffirms her position. “It does a little bit because you put so much pressure on the big day. A lot of my friends actually, a few of them who have been married and had the huge wedding, are divorced.”
A day like this would put a strain on any relationship. Luckily, Sokoloff gets along with her costar behind the scenes. Josh Cooke plays her fiancé. “He’s awesome. He’s fantastic. He was half the reason I wanted to do this job because at my network test for this, I read with him. He already had the job. He was so sweet and so nice and I loved him. He gave me a hug and I wanted to know him. I wanted to really get to know him.”
Still working on the beginning of the day, Sokoloff still hasn’t even seen the wedding dress. “I haven’t yet but I have a lot of clippings of what I want it to be.”
