The survivors must now think individually about
the Final 4. They feel the need to eliminate Ozzy. He knows immunity is
crucial.
Survivor Cook Islands Finale Rundown
Tree mail arrives announcing the immunity challenge.
There is a course with eight stations where there will be a bag of puzzle
pieces. The survivors must retrieve each bag and return it to their table.
After obtaining all eight bags they may begin to assemble the compass puzzle.
Jeff proclaims this to be the most difficult puzzle in 13 seasons. Yul is
leading, but Ozzy soon catches up. Ozzy is the first to begin working on
the puzzle and wins his fourth individual immunity. Remember Colby?
At tribal council it is obvious Yul is in strategic control of the game.
Adam decides to stir it up a little and asks the others to get the idol
out. He is trying to get Ozzy and Sundra to vote for Yul, but they won’t
bite. They will continue to let Ozzy win challenges and vote out the competition
(Raro tribe). Adam is rolling his eyes as Yul gives his explanation of why
they won’t get out the idol. Jeff says “it’s easy for
you to say, you have it”. They vote out Adam. The Aitu 4 has achieved
the impossible. They were up against a tribe twice their size and eliminated
them all.
The arrival of tree mail marks the “rites of passage”. The remaining
tribe members canoe to an island where they walk past torches bearing the
names of each survivor who has been voted out. They take some time to reflect
on each person. They gather the torches and burn them all at the end.
The Aitu 4 is confused with the description of the next challenge because
it says it is the last. But there are 4 survivors left. For the final immunity
challenge survivors must stand on a small steel perch. Each perch has been
proportioned to their foot size. Every fifteen minutes the survivors are
to pull a pin which removes a piece of the perch. The last piece is smaller
than ½ a postcard. Jeff tells them 3 people will be going to the
final tribal council before the jury.
The challenge begins. After 45 minutes and pulling off three pieces of the
perch Becky falls off. Yul follows her off at the 1 hour mark. Two hours
have passed and Sundra and Ozzy are standing on this teeny tiny piece of
steel in the blazing sun. Jeff is lounging on a pier under an umbrella.
At 2½ hours Sundra loses her balance and falls into the water. Ozzy
wins the final immunity challenge.
Back at camp Ozzy is talking to Yul about what he thinks is the fair way
to vote. He feels he should vote for Becky and Yul should vote for Sundra
then have a tie breaker. Yul offers the idol to Becky. What! Are you crazy!
Why would you jeopardize his safety for her? But Becky feels it will look
bad to the jury. Yul has stayed true to Becky the entire game.
At tribal council Ozzy and Yul are both safe. Ozzy
has the individual immunity and Yul has the idol. The vote ends in a tie
as expected. Becky did not accept the idol from Yul. Now for the tie breaker.
Each will build a fire. They must light it with flint, start the coconut
husk and add sticks so there is enough flame to burn through the rope. Who’ll
get their first flame? After one hour not one good spark. Jeff announces
they are moving on to matches. They have been on the island 38 days and
should both know how to make fire. What a disgrace. This only supports the
idea they have been riding coattails all along. The jury is yawning and
at the 1 ½ hour mark Sundra is out of matches. Finally Becky gets
enough fire to burn through the rope. Sundra is out.
The morning of day 39 has arrived. Two native girls paddle up with fruit,
bread and champagne. In an aside Ozzy tells he feels the display of fire
making skill was embarrassing. He also thinks it is fun the finals have
come down to two lawyers and a surfer.
It is time for the final tribal council. Each survivor is allowed to make
an opening statement. Yul is first, stating he has done more to affect the
course of the game and has had a key role in each of the dominant tribes.
Becky says she knows she isn’t the strongest player but has relied
on playing a ‘social game’. Whatever that means. She should
just say she is the weakest player of the three and can’t come close
to the way the other two played the game. She certainly can’t start
a fire. Ozzy statement reflects he has been the underdog all along. His
‘people’ (the Hispanics) were voted out first and he has kept
himself in the game by being a good provider. He is also still in the game
because he is astoundingly awesome at the physical challenges.
The jury members are each allowed to address the finalists and ask questions.
It is now time for the vote. Yul wins the vote 5 to 4 and becomes the sole
survivor and winner of one million dollars.
Jeff wraps everything up by saying this was one of the most enjoyable seasons.
Absolutely! Yul was perhaps the most strategically dominant player ever
and Ozzy the most physically dominant. And for the first time Jeff felt
bad that someone didn’t win. What true survivor fan doesn’t
love Ozzy?
We then see clips of survivor 14. I can’t wait; one tribe will be
living well while the other has nothing. How is it determined which tribe
you’re on? If you win challenges can you change tribes? Who will Outwit-
Outplay –Outlast.
