The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.
Vivendi and Special Ops Media have decided to get
in on the superhero action. With the success of the Spiderman: The Movie
game, and the impending Ultimate Spiderman, superheroes are back
in style. Who better to join Spidey and all his pals than mild mannered
Bruce Banner?
Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
It seems as if Ultimate Destruction is
a fairly apt name for the new Incredible Hulk game. Special Ops promotes
the game with the promise, "The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction allows
players to jump anywhere, climb anything and smash everything - even destroy
entire buildings - as the Hulk, the strongest superhero there is! Players
will create their own Hulk-powered weapons from almost anything they can
rip out of the environment, unlock new moves to battle a variety of huge
enemies in epic boss fights and experience deep and varied game elements
by exploring free-roaming non-mission and side mission gameplay."
If the major attraction of the game is destruction,
most gamers will want to explore and destroy at their leisure, so the non-linear
(or at least not only linear) quality of the game makes sense. The game
has the potential to be Zelda-esque. But I am always a little wary of games
that market big names at opportune moments (e.g. The Lord of the Rings
series). About half turn out OK, with the last half divided between the
great and the terrible.
The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction comes out for Xbox, Gamecube,
and PS2 on August 23.
Stay tuned for updates.
