Eragon
I know it is Labor Day weekend and most sites have
taken a break for the holiday, I was able to find some time in-between bronzing
poolside to deliver this small little update on Eragon.
OK, OK, the update has more to do with the upcoming Eragon video game.
But it's still a trailer of sorts... so enjoy.
Eragon Game Trailer
For some of the bigger projects I like to look
into both the negative and positive buzz. Eragon has a pretty solid
fanbase and, based on personal experience with the two books in the Inheritance
Trilogy, a great story. But there are some doubters out there. Yes,
there are many elements to Eragon that were borrowed from
fantasies such as Lord of the Rings. Seriously though,
what fantasy featuring magic and swords doesn't borrow at least a little
from JRR Tolkien's books?
Those of us who have read the second book in the Inheritance Trilogy,
Eldest, know of the complaints from 'doubters' there as well. It
would seem that more story elements get borrowed from other pop icons including,
here it comes, Star Wars. I have read the complaints and
see where they are coming from, but I can't help but be thrilled that Eragon,
Eldest and possibly the third book will come to the bigscreen
in epic fashion. Sure, there are some story arcs that seem familiar, but
they work.
Now, I don't know if Fox and Sierra were trying to give a big F-You to the
doubters, but jamming a track from the Lord of the Rings
soundtrack on the game trailer seemed so on que that it was humorous.
Game actually looks pretty cool. I still jam the Lord of the Rings
game on my X-Box from time to time. Got to get my rating up to 'Perfect,'
or was it 'Excellent,' or 'Masterful?'
Update: It seems I missed a little detail when suggesting the LOTR track used in the game trailer. The piece was actually NOT used in the film, but in the trailer for Fellowship of the Ring.
Eragon comes to theatres on December 15th.
