Peter Jackson makes blockbuster movies that make a killing. It just so happens that the videogame market also makes a killing, so Jackson plans to make those too.
Peter Jackson Boots Up Console to Wingnut Interactive
According to Variety,
Peter Jackson's recent relationship with Microsoft for the upcoming film Halo has helped push the director slash producer into becoming the owner of a gaming company titled Wingnut Interactive.
Company is committed to produce at least two projects for Microsoft that will include videogame and interactive media components. Halo is obviously on the top of their to-do list. Though details are still up in the air, it is expected that Wingnut will write the story behind the Halo installment and Bungie will handle the technical work.
Microsoft will exclusively fund both projects, meaning each product will be released for Xbox 360 only.
Jackson recently announced the venture openly at X06, a Microsoft videogame convention.
Being a director, Peter Jackson is hoping to further bridge the gap between videogames and film; he recently admitted at X06 that he hopes to turn some of his incomplete film ideas into working videogames.
The move to pick up Jackson, besides the gain in talent, also comes at a time when Microsoft is about to face some extreme competition. With Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PS3 coming out for the holidays, Xbox 360 is going to have to become more mainstream to stay ahead.
In order to keep up, Microsoft has confirmed that they will have an HD DVD drive add-on available for only $199; the cheapest HD DVD player price is around $400, but this is expected to drop as well before the holidays. PS3 will feature Sony's Blu-ray DVD player. When the console begins to sell the two formats will finally be put to the test; do you remember Betamax vs VHS?
