Nintendo Revolution
Once a year the top video game developers converge in Los Angeles for the mecca of video gaming The Electronic Entertainment Expo, otherwise known as E3. Developers line up to show off their latest games, equipment and future projects in the hopes of getting that buzz out there and making their product a big seller. This year E3 looks to do just that with Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all planning to reveal details on their next generation systems.
PS3
The PS3, Sony's follow up to the top selling PS2, seems to be the one fans want to know about the most. There isn't a whole lot of information on it right now other than a few "leaked" photos and some technical specs. Sony has a lot to live up to following up such a huge success like the PS2 that it has decided to take it's time and make the best console possible instead of being the first out of the gate. Sony might only release a few details and demos of the PS3 in order to keep the main focus on the recently release PSP.
Xbox 360
After the so-so success of the Xbox Microsoft is looking to come back in a big way and steal some of the wind from Sony. Their new system, rumored to be named "Xbox 360", plans to capitalize on some of the great positives of the original Xbox (Xbox Live, top of the line graphics) and eliminate the weakness (low 3rd party support, controller). The big question fans have on their minds is will Microsoft include a hard drive similar to what they did with the original Xbox. Microsoft remains very mum on this touchy topic that will either have fans lining up in support or running off to the competition. Microsoft has made an effort to get the word out on their system with the website ourcolony.net. The website is similar to what they did with Halo2 and ilovebees.com by going with an alternative marketing campaign to get people talking. Fans have to answer a riddle in order to see a few early pictures of some Xbox 360 components. Look for Microsoft to make a huge splash and presentation for the next-gen console
at E3 in the hopes to catch the early lead over Sony.
Nintendo Revolution
This system by far is the biggest mystery. Nintendo is keeping very quiet about any details and little information is known about what exactly this system has to offer. After the disaster of the N64 and the mediocre sales of the Gamecube, Nintendo really needs to step up and show a strong product. Online Play and more third party support are key issues gamers hope Nintento plans to take care of with the Revolution. Nintendo has the most to lose with this system so expect them to go all out in terms of impressing everyone at this years show.
Hopefully after E3 gamers will have a better idea of what each system has to offer and exactly when we can expect these consoles to hit the store shelves. No matter what 2006 already looks to be one exciting year for video games.
