More info on Star Wars prequel rumor surfacing
After I reported the latest rumor that George Lucas
will in fact create more Star Wars films that should prequel Revenge
of the Sith [read here],
I got a lot of crap. However, this rumor is now getting some real fire,
and I do honestly feel that there is something at work here.
Star Wars Prequel In the Works?
I did this in part I, but lets look again at some
of the truths to the Star Wars films...
- Star Wars Revenge
of the Sith is a hit and is currently smashing box
office records
- The new Star Wars trilogy proves that Star Wars
fans and general moviegoers love to know more about the Star Wars
history.
- Any Star Wars film is a guaranteed cash cow... no matter
if it is bad or not.
- Just about everybody gains [theatres, fans, 20th Century Fox, Lucas,
ILM, LucasFilm, Hasbro, other commercial groups] from the release of
a Star Wars movie.
So why the hell would 20th Century Fox even think to allow Lucas to stop
making [or supporting] these films? Obviously, this question and the list
above are an easy basis on why we should expect more Star Wars
films. Even without the latest rumor and reports, people should expect the
possibility of another Star Wars. But we do have reports, and they
only add to the suspicions that not only are more Star Wars films
possible, but very likely.
After hearing a similar report that I had, IESB
went to work to get a hold of one of their Skywalker Ranch contacts. After
discussing some of the latest rumors with this contact, here is a little
of what they had to report:
"Lucasfilm is concentrating on both the live action and animated TV series and there is currently no official work or talk on other films," said one of our sources. The key word was "official", so what about unofficial talk about other films? "Plenty of it," says our contact.
The belief over at Lucasfilm is that the Star Wars TV series will spawn off a whole new batch of films. Not just new trilogies but it could be just a stand alone film from a certain storyline.
What timeline? They know that the main storyline for the TV series will take place between Sith and New Hope but there is talk that there will be flashback episodes/scenes that will take us back 800 to 1000 years before the Skywalkers.
If you remember from Part
I of my report, I mentioned that the easiest move by Lucas
and 20th Century is to adapt the Knights of the Old Republic gaming
series to film. The story for those are brilliant, and also give a huge
background on not only the Sith, but of the mandalorian wars that we hear
so much about. How cool would it be for a trilogy just based off of the
mandalorian wars and the effects on the Jedi and the Sith?
I am telling you, keep your ears ready for more Star Wars rumors.
Obviously, Lucas would never let these rumors become reality until Revenge
of the Sith has finished its run in the theatres; he doesn't want to
steal any fire from his latest cash cow.
For the entire scoop from Skywalker Ranch, go to IESB.
For the time being, go to the Star
Wars Revenge of the Sith Movie Page for anything Star
Wars.
