Johnny Depp talks playing Wonka
Just got finished laying in the background for the
holiday weekend reading the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. The latest
issue offers a review for War
of the Worlds, a first look at the documentary Murderball,
and an inside look at Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory.
Depp on Wonka Industries
Judging by the image we used, it should be obvious
that one of the next highly - anticipated films to hit theatres is Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory. We have received tons of early 'comments'
that claim that movie is pretty dang good and that Depp continues down the
path of glory when it comes to playing very memorable characters. However,
according to EW, Depp hasn't always been the actor of choice for Warner
Bros and, before his latest success with Pirates of the Caribbean,
Depp was used with caution by other studios as well.
The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory article from EW is pretty
good and features discussions with Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, and even Deep
Roy who plays the hundreds of Ooompa-Loompas to be found within the Wonka
factory. Check out some snippets below:
When Depp's asked why he hides his box office
good looks behind strange wigs, fake teeth, and girly squeals, he rolls
a cigarette and considers the question. "I think it's an actor's responsibility
to change every time. Not only for himself and the people he's working with,
but for the audience. If you just go out and deliver the same dish every
time...it's meatloaf again... you'd get bored. I'd get bored."
Depp goes on to discuss how much he enjoys scaring
studio execs with his over - the - top antics; the same antics that helped
Pirates of the Caribbean score so high with Depp's character Jack
Sparow.
