Venom Venom still has a chance
When I heard that they were keeping the choices on villain(s) to appear in Spider-Man 3, I figured they would spill the beans by the release of War of the Worlds. But NO! Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, and everybody else working with the latest sequel are keeping their mouths sealed. However, hints do pop up from time to time and here are the latest two.

Spider-Man 3 Villains

The first scoop popped up over at SHH, who believe they are starting to get an edge on this Spider-Man 3 villain business. Check out a little of their latest post:

Scooper 'The Calculator' tells us a rumor that in Spider-Man 3 you may see four villains! With that many, you would think that not all four could be major villains in the third installment, which may concentrate mostly on just one or two. We don't really know at this point what is going to happen.

Currently, the cast consists of two guaranteed villains in Topher Grace and Thomas Haden Church. So what villains should we expect? According to SuperHeroHype, they are going with Sandman, Hobgoblin, Vulture and Venom.

While having four villains would satisfy the majority of fans who have mixed feelings on who the next villain should be, this could also mean destruction for the franchise for two reasons. First off, I worry when the studio tries to squeeze in four villains. Why can't we save them for later films? Are there going to be later films? Second, one of the best aspects of the Spider-Man films is character development. We get to see Doc Ock go from being a kind and gentle scientist to a sadistic villain willing to do all that it takes to complete an experiment. With four villains, how could we possibly give each the time they deserve?

The second rumor comes over from SHH as well, which attempt to confirm the appearance of one of the next 'goblin' villains.

My time spent on Spider-man was only 3 month in the beginning of pre-production. We all had shots at the glider and other gadgets. At that time everything was not comic book, more real technology. In the end it all turned to a total comic book based design, and the only contribution of mine that made it into the movie was the Pumpkin bomb. Which apparently will celebrate a comeback in the 3rd installment.

Spider-Man 3 has a release date of May 4th, 2007.
