Liam Neeson does have a strong voice, but not the
type of strong that should come out of a lion. The rumored option for Aslan
was initially Brian Cox [X-Men United], but his voice would have
made Aslan sound like he is dying from emphysema; so I guess Neeson is a
step up.
According to reports coming in and across the web, Cox supposedly had the
role of Aslan up until his voice began to change due to sudden weight loss.
Obviously you can't have your most powerful character sounding like a pussy,
so Disney pushed Cox and replaced him [allegedly] with Liam Neeson. However,
it has been stated that the studio was looking for a younger sounding voice
for Aslan, something of which that Neeson does not possess. To whom can
we turn?
As of now, expect Neeson to be in the top position for the voice of Aslan.
But that doesn't mean we can't cheer for other names such as Sean Bean or
James Earl Jones. Sean Bean is on the list of contenders to voice Aslan,
and I couldn't agree with that choice more. Besides being a great actor,
Bean offers a powerful, yet calming, voice that resembles that of a noble
leader. James Earl Jones has not been mentioned to do the voice of Aslan
in Chronicles of Narnia, but his voice would probably remain to
be the most powerful of all.
Since this Aslan story has begun to run rampant
across the web, expect official updates shortly.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
will arrive to theatres on December 9th.
