Bruce Campbell in The Evil Dead
Bruce Campbell, probably the best known cult-film
star, has been making his way back into the film circuit by doing small
roles in big films. Currently you can see Bruce Campbell in films such as
Spider-Man 2 [the usher], Sky
High [the gym coach], The Ladykillers [humane
society], Intolerable Cruelty [extra as a soap actor], Congo
[the guy who dies at the beginning], and in Spider-Man [wrestling
announcer]. Yes, I know these tiny roles don't mean much, but the Campbell
fans out there know exactly where to spot Bruce in every film he takes part
in.
Besides these tiny cameos, most know Bruce Campbell for his roles in The
Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and as
an aged Elvis Presley in Bubba Ho-Tep. What can we say, this guy
has got charisma, which has helped him to become the poster child for a
term I call 'kinda-star.' While big film buffs know him and consider him
to be the god of cinema, the general moviegoer population has either never
heard of him or only think of him indifferently. Well, depending on the
latest news, this may about to change.
Bruce Campbell is a Dark Horse
Bruce Campbell is teaming up with Dark Horse Comics
to create a film where Bruce Campbell will not only star, but also play
himself. In a recent Q&A session with Kotaku,
Bruce Campbell had this to say about the upcoming film project:
And then in the Fall I'm going to start a new
film for Dark Horse comics, a cool company set in Portland, they're making
movies now. It's an untitled Bruce Campbell movie where I play myself. It's
about a small town that is having problems with a monster and nothing's
working so somebody suggests let's get the Evil Dead guy. Unfortunately,
in reality I don't own a gun, I've never used a chainsaw and more die then
before I got there.
Am I starting to catch a Three Amigos
formula at work here? Well, it sounds similar, but Bruce Campbell will definitely
add the element that makes him who he is... Bruce Campbell. Any chance of
another Evil Dead film? Well, considering that Sam Raimi is the
director behind The Evil Dead series, which includes Army of
Darkness, and the fact that Sam Raimi is making hand over fist cash
with the Spider-Man movies, only count on seeing the two individuals come
together for Spider-Man
3. I am still wondering when Raimi will let Bruce Campbell
to play a villain in the Spider-Man films.
