Cedric Diggory is a new addition to the Potter films [not books]
I have recently finished the latest installment
to the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,
and do admit to being a little bummed. The only thing left of Potter
within the next year or two is the upcoming film Harry
Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This installment to the
series covers the Tri-Wizard Tournament that takes place at Hogwarts and
allows the school to invite other magical schools over for a year-long visit
[yes, there are other magic schools].
After the other two schools arrive, totaling three, each school is allowed
to select one champion through the process known as the goblet of fire.
The champions selected are Viktor Krum [famous Seeker], Fleur Delacour [young,
permissive, hottie], and Cedric Diggory from Hufflepuff. However, there
is only one problem and it comes with the name of Harry Potter. For unknown
reasons, the goblet of fire decided to select a fourth champion for that
year's Tri-Wizard Tournament, with Harry being competitor of choice.
Even though the films never mention Cedric Diggory until this upcoming film,
he is mentioned in previous Potter books. All three of the new character
additions is something that should be refreshing and exciting for Goblet
of Fire. But don't take it from me, let's hear them talk about it.
Champions Talk Goblet of Fire
Comingsoon
was able to sit down with Robert Pattinson [Cedric], Clémence Poéy
[Fleur] and Stanislav Ianevski [Viktor] and discuss their roles in Harry
Potter and the Goblet of Fire. One thing that cracks me up about every
addition to the Potter cast is that it seems that none of the cast members
had read Harry Potter until being picked up for the films. The latest book
sold millions opening day and hardly any of the cast had any experience
with the books before joining on. In the words of Morpheus, 'It would seem
that fate has a sense of irony.'
Check out a snippet of the interviews from ComingSoon:
CS!: How does it feel to be the new
blood in such a popular series of movies?
Robert Pattinson: Well, I thought it would be more daunting
then it has turned out to be. I think I've kind of integrated pretty easily,
but everyone's pretty friendly, so it's not particularly difficult to do
that. I think being a "new blood" hasn't really affected me that much.
Stanislav Ianevski: I feel as if what I've been doing hasn't
really changed me, as well. I feel as if I'm a part of a new family now.
I've settled down really well, I think.
CS!: Were you fans of the movies before doing this or had you not
paid attention?
Stan: Well, me, personally, not directly, but as soon as
I got the part, I got the past books and the films.
Robert: That's more or less the same as me. I hadn't read
any of them until I heard about the audition and then I read it about a
week before the audition. I was pretty unitiated.
I cannot believe that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will
be Stanislav Ianevski's first film. This guy has to be one of the luckiest
people in entertainment; probably a step behind Brandon Routh who got picked
up as Superman for the upcoming film Superman
Returns.
