Dreamworks Entertainment, which has produced such
Oscar-winning films American Beauty, Gladiator and Shrek,
feels that their pockets are just not deep enough to compete in today's
Hollywood.
Dreamworks Entertainment Up For Sale
Announced Wednesday, Dreamworks Entertainment is
up for sale, and NBC Universal is the leading candidate for the $1 Billion
entertainment company.
Dreamworks' co-founder Steven Speilberg started his Hollywood career with Universal Studios over thirty-five years ago, and has since maintained a positive relationship. NBC Uni already distributes Dreamworks' movies and DVD's under Universal Studios Home Video; while United Pictures International runs Dreamworks' international distribution, the foreign distributor jointly owned by Universal and Paramount.
NBC Uni does not yet know what shape Dreamworks will take upon being aquired, however some are speculating that it could transform into a specialty movie house run by Speilberg. Speilberg has already made it known that he wants no part of the front office of a publicly traded company, so this conjecture is not all that far fetched.
Dreamworks has twice escaped bankruptcy; therefore suggesting that if NBC Uni falls out they will look for another buyer.
