Here is a brief casting update for all of you who
enjoy films such as Hero and House of Flying Daggers [me
me!]. The director of these films, Zhang Yimou, has picked up Chow Yun-Fat
and Gong Li [sometimes credited as Li Gong] to star in his latest film project
Autumn Remembrance.
Autumn Remembrance
According to Variety,
Zhang Yimou has recently picked up both Chow Yun-Fat and Gong Li to star
in his latest story of star-crossed lovers who are most likely going to
have to duke it out in order to survive, escape, or seek redemption. Though
I thought Yimou's film Hero, starring Jet Li, ended somewhat poorly,
I thought House of Flying Daggers was a damn good film and currently
have the DVD sitting right in front of me.
If Zhang Yimou can repeat some of the cool shit [flying daggers and arrows
perhaps?] that he did in House of Flying Daggers, than you can
definitely count me in on an opening weekend theatre visit; hell, I'd even
pay the evening ticket price.
The story of Autumn Remembrance follows the tale of two star-crossed
lovers, Gong as an imperial bodyguard and Chow as a Prince, as they attempt
a dangerous journey to escape persecution for their love.
Chow Yun-Fat is also currently signed on to play
a pirate captain in the second Disney sequel Pirates of the Caribbean
3. You can see Gong Li this year in the upcoming film Memoirs of
a Geisha.
