Jarhead
While it is the weekend and I tried to convince
myself to take the day off or, at least, only work on site maintenance,
there have been a couple of brief updates that I figured were interesting
enough to post.
The first update actually came as a complete surprise to me for the upcoming
film Jarhead.
We have not received a single update for the film or any type of media whatsoever
for Jarhead, but Universal Pictures has already begun to do test
screenings.
Jarhead Test Screening Report
The good people over at AICN
have received a couple of reports from those who were fortunate enough to
check out the test screenings for the upcoming Sam Mendes film Jarhead.
Though this film is probably going to have a lot of political debate on
how accurate its depiction is of the standard marine during Kuwait and similar
options in the Middle East.
Though the person who wrote in claimed they liked the film, they did also
point out that they did not love it. Check out a snippet from the report
on Jarhead below:
I definitely liked the movie. I didn't love it immensely... but I definitely could depending on what editing they do henceforth.
The tone is vintage Medes... dark, humorous, and at times touching. It follows the life of Anthony Swofford as he joins the marines and fights his way through boot camp. Swofford is of course, played by Jake Gyllenhaal.
This is our first taste of actual war in the film, and Mendes captures it perfectly. These guys have been training for months and years for this moment. They are warriors... but when the fighting breaks out... it comes down to Jake running and whispering to himself...
"Do not fucking die! Do not fucking die"
The only problem I found with this 'review', and
the extremely positive one right after, is that neither of them really say
what we can expect. Yes, the film is a character piece, but is there a lot
of action like Saving Private Ryan or something that just finishes
with a moment of action? Well, hopefully we can get some damn updates on
Jarhead from Universal soon.
To check out the reports on Jarhead, head over to AICN.
Jarhead assaults theatres November 11, 2005.
