It will be a little longer till we get to see Portman's bald mug
Warner Bros V
for Vendetta, based off of the graphic novel by Alan Moore,
has just hit its second hiccup when the studio announced that they were
only kidding when we hear 'V' say "Remember, remember the fifth of
November" at the end of the film's teaser trailer. Due to various reasons
[mentioned below], we must now wait till 2006 to see this story hit the
big screen.
V for Vendetta Pushed Back
The one good thing about the news is the fact that
V for Vendetta isn't being pushed back for re-shoots, further editing,
or an added finish. Instead, Warner Bros claims that the film just won't
be ready by November 5th. If this is the truth, that should be fine by us.
Moviegoers should rather see a 'finished' film than one quickly put together
to turn a buck or two. However, these reasons still do have their skeptics.
Considering that V for Vendetta does cover
the topic of terrorism to ignite a revolution to overthrow none other than
England, some might find a bit of an uncomfortable relation for this Warner
Bros film to the recent terrorist bombings in London. So, it is slightly
possible that the film was pushed back just for this reason... but I doubt
it. The crew has already been repeatedly asked about the London bombings
and the effect on the film with every interview ending in the same response--
the Wachowski brothers and James McTeigue just don't care.
However, some still believe that the London bombings
are having the same effect on V for Vendetta as Domino Harvey's
death had on the upcoming film Domino.
But, if you take a look closer, Domino was re-pushed back after
being pushed forward soon after Domino's death. Again, some of the crew
have claimed that the 'real' reason is that the film just won't be ready
by the new release date. So, don't worry, if anything it will give the cast
and crew of V for Vendetta more time to polish up.
A more plausible excuse, however, would have been that they want to avoid
the Harry Potter
and the Goblet of Fire [also Warner Bros] mania that is
about to ensue this November.
The new release date for V for Vendetta is March 17th,
2006.
