The New World
Some of the best aspects to The
New World is the star studded cast that includes Colin
Farrell, Christian Bale, and Christopher Plummer, and the fact that the
film is being helmed by Terrence Malick [The Thin Red Line]. Though most
are amped to see Malick take on his first project since The Thin Red
Line, I just hope that he can leave some of the nature imagery out
this time. While I do enjoy the cinematography he employs, sometimes his
movies seem to drag because of it. And, judging by the first trailers, it
looks like he is up to his old ways.
Maybe this latest behind the scenes footage for The New World can
give a better insight on where Malick is taking us this time around.
The New World : Behind the Scenes
Though I do have my worries about how The New
World can turn out, I do have to admit that the premise for the film
looks to be extremely cool. Colin Farrell plays the adventurous John Smith,
who is 27 years old and one of a group of British colonists hoping to establish
a permanent settlement at Jamestown, Va., an uncharted spot on the edge
of the New World. The story follows Smith's relationship with the local
chief's daughter Pocahontas [Q'Orianka Kilcher]. As their relationship grows
so does the strife between the two very different civilizations, a looming
conflict in which the triumph of one culture entails the sacrifice of another.
One of the best aspects to the behind the scenes for The New World
is the intro by Christopher Plummer, who gives the tagline, 'The love of
a woman that gave birth to a nation.' Besides that, you can also see that
this film may actually be a better fit for Terrence Malick, as he has tons
of opportunity to acquant the aspect of nature into his film.
