Though the updates have been sort of slow lately,
it has been one of our top priorities to keep everybody updated on the upcoming
film Serenity
from Joss Whedon. Based off of the cult-followed television series that
didn't last a season, Firefly, Serenity looks like the perfect film to get
a new sci-fi trilogy up and cooking.
However, we have got to see how this first installment does and, judging
by the early reviews alone, Serenity has got what it takes to end
September with a big bang.
Early Serenity Review
Clint over at Moviehole
has been fortunate enough to check out Serenity early and has recently released a wonderful review that nails the film right on the head while giving away
relatively few spoilers.
If you have never heard of the upcoming film Serenity
[where have you been?], it is a sci-fi film created by Joss 'Buffy' Whedon
that combines the genres of space and old western to create one hell of
an adventure. Featuring the same cast from the cancelled show that the film is
based on, Serenity will be coming to theatres with cannons blazing
and six-shooters shooting.
We have already experienced a bunch of positive early reviews for Serenity
thanks to all the early screenings put on by Universal [shows great faith
in the film], and this latest addition from Clint only adds to the hype.
"Serenity" feels like a gobsmackingly-good
two-hour season ender for the series. But that’s good. That’s what fans
want. Who wants to revisit the beloved characters only to discover that
they’re changed, or that the story’s drifted away from the one we were tuning
in week-after-week for?
At the same time, Whedon’s – making his feature-film directorial debut here - need to please the fans might also have hurt his film a little. Those that are new to the world might soon catch on – you get a quick introduction – but they’re unlikely to be as emotionally invested in the characters as the fans are, and let’s admit it, it’s the characters that we keep coming back for. Some of the film’s surprises are unlikely to affect newcomers, as they will the regular browncoats.
Still, everyone likes a good movie – and this is definitely an A-grade experience.
