Being Catholic myself, I admit to having loved the
film adaptation of the graphic novel Constantine.
The film played on the aspects of religion with grace, while also dishing
up enough action and horror to keep all fans satisfied. Add the fact that
Keanu Reeves fit the role perfectly and Rachel Weisz performs the role of
supporting actress spot on, and it seems unlikely that Warner Bros would
want to pass up a chance for a sequel. What can we say, Hollywood loves
sequels.
However, there are those, including Keanu himself, who have doubts.
Keanu on Constantine Sequel
During a brief discussion with ComingSoon
on the upcoming film Thumbsucker,
Keanu Reeves was asked about the possibility of doing another Constantine
film. Though he admits that there are those out there who are optimistic,
it is the studio execs who get the final say on the matter.
"I would do that in a second,"
he told us before saying how much he liked the storyline from the first
movie. But he wasn't so sure about a sequel happening."They're producers,
so they have to be optimistic. It's not up to me, man. It's up to whomever
wants to provide the resources to make that movie. I don't think Warner
Bros. is going to do it. I don't think it makes fiscal sense for them, because
they don't feel it will make money."
Though Keanu has his doubts on the possibility
of a sequel, it still looks like graphic novels are the way to go for 2005
and 2006. There are currently a grip of graphic novel adaptations in production
that include Sin City 2, 300, The Watchmen, V
for Vendetta and the new Batman films.
