A while back I received a couple emails asking
me if I have heard the news about Uwe Boll directing the upcoming adaptation
of the best-selling X-Box game Halo. I didn't even have to look
into this one and quickly responded with a single word, 'Nooooooo'. The
answer was easy-- Microsoft, 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures wouldn't
dare take a risk with Uwe Boll. His last film, Bloodrayne, though
featuring an impressive cast, could not even get picked up by a single studio.
Why the hell would any big budget film want to pick him up? Ok, ok, Dungeon
Siege may be an exception.
Halo / Uwe Boll Rumor Exposed
Though I was able to answer 'false' to the rumor
of Uwe Boll on Halo just by intuition, the good people over at
AICN
have found the source of the rumor and its solution.
This rumor started when someone (I wouldn't be suprised if it was Dr. Boll himself trying to drum up some publicity) submitted Uwe Boll as director for HALO (2007) on IMDB. I thought, surely everybody knows that any old person can post any ridiculous thing on IMDB that they want, so I didn't bother posting anything on this rumor a few days ago...
Now it's starting to get picked up on some foreign movie rumor sites... Next thing you know it'll be sent as fact to some of the big outlets and Boll's name will taint the project for a while.
So, lets calmly conclude that Halo is
still up to get adopted by a loving director. And, since this film could
be very Aliens-ish, I throw my vote for James Cameron. He has been
spending too much time in the water and has to get back to the films that
made him great.
As mentioned above, Uwe Boll is currently working on the adaptation of another
best-selling game Dungeon Siege. As of right now, the two best
things the film has going for it are Jason
Statham and cool conceptual artwork.
