Jim Carrey is one of those actors that doesn't
seem to do enough films. Proving to audiences that he can handle drama just
as well as comedy in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind [review
here], we should see Carrey in a full slate of films for the
next few years. But no, he seems to rather take his projects one at a time,
or should we say one a year. Therefore, any time Carrey jumps on a new project
it is big news.
The Number 23 Wants Carrey
According to Variety,
Jim Carrey and director Joel Schumacher are negotiating to team on The
Number 23, a Fernley Phillips-scripted New Line drama. Carrey will
play a man who becomes obsessed and haunted upon reading a book that seems
to be about his life but ends with a murder. The number 23 is woven throughout
the plot.
The arrival of Carrey marks the second attempt by Joel Schumacher to get
The Number 23 off the ground.
Carrey, who just finished Fun
with Dick and Jane and Schumacher, who has to now wait
for a new script for The Crowded Room, both were able to find free time
in their schedules to make The Number 23 their next assignment.
Jim Carrey has had previous experience with both Schumacher and New Line
Cinema before. He played the Riddler for Schumacher in Batman Forever
and separate characters in Mask and Dumb and Dumber for
New Line Cinema. Nevermind the fact that Schumacher represented an, uhh,
interesting switch to the formula of the Batman film franchise
and these two may just crank out something spectacular.
Jim Carrey will fit in The Number 23 before joining up with Ben
Stiller and Jay Roach to create the comedy film Used Guys.
