Even though we have to wait till September 30th
to watch Joss Whedon's latest film Serenity,
the man has already begun to set himself up with a busy line-up. As most
know, Whedon is already working on a script for the film adaptation of Wonder
Woman; something that should keep him pretty busy. However, it looks
like the freshman director is ready to spend some a little more time with
Universal first.
Joss Whedon's Goner
According to Variety,
Universal Pictures has recently purchased Joss Whedon's script Goner
for a whopping seven figures. What seems to be Whedon fashion, Whedon will
jump on board to direct the film.
Whedon, whose first directorial debut will arrive on September 30th, has
decided to stick with Universal for a second go with Mary Parent and Scott
Stuber to produce. This should come easy to Whedon and the distribution
company, as Goner contains a number of similarities to Serenity.
"It's the story of a young woman's journey that involves a great deal
of horror and some heroics," he said. "It's certainly darker than
Serenity, and there are a lot of left turns along the way. It is
something I had in mind for a while, and it just poured out of me when I
finished my film.".
"I was given license to purely make it my
own and yet she is already an iconic Amazon princess," Whedon said.
" Goner has some similarities, but the heroines could not
be more different, and the story is a bit more intimate and less complicated
than Wonder Woman."
It would seem that Joss Whedon has a fascination for strong women with Buffy
the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Serenity, Wonder Woman
and now Goner.
