Good Night, And Good Luck movie poster
Ever since I caught wind of the upcoming black
& white film [yes, no color] Good
Night, And Good Luck, I have looked to October 7th with
anticipation. Sure, the film doesn't feature the entirely digital sets or
any lightsabers swinging around, but it does have girth. Featuring an all-star
cast that includes George Clooney, David Strathairn, Robert Downey Jr.,
Patricia Clarkson, Jeff Daniels, Tate Donovan, Ray Wise and Frank Langella,
Good Night looks to be a courageous reminder of a period most likely
missed by a good portion of our readers.
Good Night, And Good Luck Review
Good Night, And Good Luck takes place
during the early days of broadcast journalism in 1950's America. It chronicles
the real-life conflict between television newsman Edward R. Murrow and Senator
Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee.
If you haven't heard of either of these names, then there is a high chance
you may opt out of this film. However, if you are a fan of history or even
lived through the ordeal, then there is a good chance that this film could
be right up your alley. Either way, check out the first review to pop up
online over at AICN.
The film was brilliant. Courageous and well acted by Stathairn who will be getting nominations for sure. Funny at times but always intense, the film is important work. With that being said I'm sure it will do poorly at the box office; no explosions, no nudity, nothing for the average American. The Kent cigarette ad was particularly funny, especially since it was a real ad, and the chain smoking going on screen made the cigarette smoke a character of its own.
Though this first review is pretty detail-less, it does give a wonderful
impression of the film while also admitting that Good Night, And Good
Luck, no matter how good, may be one of those films that cruises in
out of theatres completely under the general moviegoer's radar. Read the
entire review at AICN.
Good Night, And Good Luck has a limited release on October 7th.
